My weakness has always been in my balance (or lack thereof), but since I’ve started going to community yoga once a week, I can’t believe how much my balance has improved. I’ve been having a lot of fun testing out that balance and surprising myself with the poses I can pull off. After a few down dogs, up dogs, and forward folds, I find myself jumping right into the thick of it.
I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music while I practise these kinds of exercises; the intense technicality of Stravinsky’s The Fire Bird juxtaposes with my child-like experimentation. I practise balancing on one foot at a time and stretching my body in different ways, while maintaining my breathing and balance. I try not to get distracted and exist wholly in the moment.
